Almando Diaz, age 39, of Springfield, was arrested on Monday, Nov. 8, for the murder of Luis Ramos, age 32, also of Springfield, said the Hampden County District Attorney's Office.
Diaz was discovered dead around midnight on Wednesday, March 11, when members of the Chicopee Police Department responded to calls of possible shots fired.
A short time later, the Springfield Police Department responded to the area of Springfield Street and Cunningham Street, in Springfield, for a single-vehicle crash.
Officers located a man, later identified as Ramos, who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later in the morning of March 12, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Ramos’s death to be a homicide.
Over the course of the next eight months, police conducted an intensive investigation, including applying for and being granted 11 search warrants and utilizing numerous investigative techniques.
As a result, investigators were able to successfully obtain an arrest warrant.
Following his arrest, Diaz was charged with murder and is being held without bail.
